1. (두루높임으로) 상대방에게 질문할 때 쓰는 표현.

1. -GOYO: (informal addressee-raising) An expression used to ask the listener a question.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 그동안 안녕하셨고요?
    How have you been?
  • 아버님은 잘 계시고요?
    How's your father?
  • 따님이 아프다더니 이제 좀 괜찮고요?
    I heard your daughter was sick. are you okay now?
  • 어제는 잘 쉬셨고요?
    Did you rest well yesterday?
    응. 푹 잤더니 오늘은 좀 개운하네.
    Yeah. i feel refreshed today because i slept soundly.

2. (두루높임으로) 이미 이야기했거나 서로 알고 있는 내용에 관해 따져 물을 때 쓰는 표현.

  • 괜찮다고 하실 때는 언제고요?
    When do you say it's okay?
  • 이렇게 가 버리시면 저는 어떡하고요?

  • 약속을 갑자기 취소해 버리시다니 모이자고 한 사람은 누구고요?
    Who said we should get together for a sudden cancellation?
  • 더 이상은 무리일 것 같아. 그만 두자.
    I think it's too much anymore. let's quit.
    지금까지 열심히 한 사람들에게는 뭐라고 하고요?
    What do you say to those who have worked hard so far?

3. (두루높임으로) 질문에 덧붙여 질문과 관련된 상황을 덧붙여 말할 때 쓰는 표현.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 어디 계세요? 전화도 안 받으시고요.
    Where are you? he's not answering his phone.
  • 뭐 하세요? 집에 빨리 가시지 않고요.
    What are you doing? i don't go home fast.
  • 왜 화부터 내세요? 제 말은 들어 보지도 않으시고요.
    Why are you angry first? you don't even listen to me.
  • 웬일이세요? 매번 바쁘시다고 하시더니 갑자기 보자고 하시고요.
    What are you doing? you always say you're busy, but suddenly you want to see me.

4. (두루높임으로) 앞에 오는 말에 내용을 덧붙이거나 계속 이어 말하는 경우, 뒤에 오는 말을 생략하여 말할 때 쓰는 표현.

4. -GOYO: (informal addressee-raising) An expression used when omitting the following statement, while the speaker adds something to the preceding statement or keeps talking.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 저희 갈게요. 그럼 좋은 꿈 꾸시고요.
    We're going. sweet dreams, then.
  • 승규가 집에 왔어요. 술을 잔뜩 먹고요.
    Seung-gyu's home. i'm full of alcohol.
  • 즐거운 여행하세요. 좋은 사람들도 많이 만나시고요.
    Have a nice trip. i hope you meet many good people.
  • 언제부터 소화가 안 되셨나요?
    Since when have you had indigestion?
    어제 저녁부터 배가 아팠어요. 저녁 먹고요.
    I've had a stomachache since last night. after dinner.

📚 Annotation: 동사 또는 어미 ‘-으시-’ 뒤에 붙여 쓴다.
