1. 금이나 줄을 그리다.

1. DRAW: To draw a line or stroke.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 금을 긋다.
    Draw gold.
  • 밑줄을 긋다.
    Underline.
  • 선을 긋다.
    Draw a line.
  • 인부들은 바닥에 흰색 실선과 점선을 그어 이곳이 도로임을 표시하였다.
    Workers drew white solids and dotted lines on the floor to indicate that this was a road.
  • 승규는 교과서를 읽으면서 중요한 부분에 빨간색 펜으로 밑줄을 그었다.
    Seung-gyu underlined the important part with a red pen as he read the textbook.
  • ♔ 내가 금을 그어서 표시해 놓은 부분까지만 네가 해. 나머지는 내가 다 했어.
    You only do the part i've drawn and marked with gold. i did the rest.

2. 성냥이나 끝이 뾰족한 것을 표면에 대고 약간 힘을 주어 움직이다.

2. STRIKE; CUT: To put a match or something with a pointed end on a surface and move it with a slight pressure.

    Seung-gyu made a mark by cutting a knife on the wooden desk.

3. 물건값 등을 바로 내지 않고 외상으로 처리하다.

3. BUY ON CREDIT: To buy something on credit without paying for the price of goods, etc., right away.

  • 외상을 긋다.
    Draw trauma.
  • 장부에 긋다.
    Draw on the books.
  • 승규는 술값을 외상으로 그어 먹고는 술값을 갚지 않았다.
    Seung-gyu drew the price of alcohol on credit and did not pay it back.
  • 지수는 단골 가게에서 밥을 그어서 먹고는 갚지 않은 것이 생각났다.
    Jisoo remembered that she drew rice at a regular store and ate it and didn't pay it back.

4. 일의 경계나 한계를 분명히 짓다.

4. LIMIT; RESTRICT: To place a definite limit or boundary to something.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 경계를 긋다.
    Draw a boundary.
  • 선을 긋다.
    Draw a line.
  • 책임을 긋다.
    Draw responsibility.
  • 한계를 긋다.
    Draw a line.
  • 나는 팀원들과 서로 업무의 경계를 명확히 그었다.
    I drew clear lines of work with the team members.
  • 일을 분담해서 할 때는 각자 맡을 일을 확실하게 긋고 시작하는 것이 좋다.
    It is advisable to draw a clear line of work for each person when they share the work.
  • 계약서를 쓸 때는 계약 당사자들 간의 의무와 책임을 명확하게 그어 놓아야 한다.
    When writing a contract, the obligations and responsibilities between the parties to the contract must be clearly drawn up.
  • 승규와 유민은 친구 사이일 뿐이라고 선을 긋는 사이라서 연인으로 발전할 가망은 거의 없다.
    Seung-gyu and yu-min draw a line just because they are friends, so there is little chance of becoming lovers.

5. 시험지를 채점할 때, 틀린 답 위에 빗금을 쳐서 답이 틀렸음을 나타내다.

6. 손이나 손가락으로 허공에 어떤 모양을 그리는 시늉을 하다.

6. DRAW IN THE AIR: To pretend to draw something in the air with one's hand or finger.

🗣️ Usage Example:
  • 성호를 긋다.
    Draw a cross.
  • 십자가를 긋다.
    Draw a cross.
  • 김 선수는 골을 넣자 십자가를 그으며 감사의 기도를 했다.
    When kim scored, he crossed and prayed for thanks.
  • 천주교 신자인 지수는 식사 전에 항상 성호를 긋고 기도를 한다.
    Ji-su, a catholic, always draws a sign and prays before meals.
  • 약도를 그려 줄 마땅한 종이가 없어 나는 허공에 손가락을 그어 가며 길을 설명했다.
    There was no paper to draw a map of, so i explained the way by drawing my finger in the air.

7. 명단에서 이름을 빼거나 글에서 일부분을 빼다.

7. ELIMINATE; EXCLUDE: To remove a name from a list or remove a part of a writing.

    Draw a pile of dust.
  • 문장을 긋다.
    Draw a sentence.
  • 이름을 긋다.
    Draw a name.
  • 명단에서 긋다.
    Draw from a list.
  • 회장은 회칙을 상습적으로 어기는 회원을 회원 명단에서 그어 버렸다.
    The chairman has drawn members from the membership list who habitually violate the rules of the meeting.
  • 그 시대에는 정부 기관이 신문에서 검열을 통해 기사를 그어 버리기도 했다.
    In those days, government agencies used to write articles through censorship in newspapers.
  • ♔ 승규야, 내 원고 교정은 다 끝났니?
    Seung-gyu, have you finished correcting my manuscript?
    ♕ 응. 내가 그어 놓은 부분은 군더더기니까 빼도록 해.
    Yeah. the part i drew is extra, so take it out.
